Frequently Asked Questions
What is branding photography, and how is it different from a headshot?
A headshot is a clean, consistent portrait of you, usually from the shoulders up. Branding photography shows you as part of your work, with your environment, your tools, and your personality in the frame. A headshot says who you are, and a branding image says what you do and how it feels to work with you. Many clients book both.
What’s the difference between an environmental look and a studio look?
The environmental look places you in a real setting, either your professional environment or somewhere else in the Milwaukee area. The studio look uses a classic backdrop, which I create at your location with my portable headshot photography studio. If you can’t decide, tell me about your goals, and I’ll recommend which fits.
Who needs branding photos?
Executives, business owners, consultants, healthcare professionals, authors and speakers, pastors, realtors, and anyone whose reputation depends on being known. My samples also include musicians, drummers, a pianist, a dancer, actors, and models. I photograph beauty, glamour, casual, and social media looks too.
Where can an environmental branding session happen?
Anywhere that tells your story. That might be your office or workspace, a performance setting, a brick wall with your sign, or outdoors with the city behind you. Greater Milwaukee has a wide variety of settings, and I’ll work with you to choose one. I travel throughout Greater Milwaukee, including Wauwatosa, West Allis, and Brookfield.
How much does a branding session cost?
Individual headshot sessions are $275, which includes your first retouched image, and each additional look is $75, with no cap. Travel fees apply beyond Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Waukesha, and Racine counties. See my Prices page.
How long does a branding session take?
An individual headshot session usually takes up to 30 minutes, and I give you whatever time you need. Branding sessions with several settings, props, or outfit changes take longer.
Can I bring props, instruments, or outfit changes?
Yes. My samples include musicians with their guitars, drumsticks, and a grand piano, as well as clients at their desks and in front of their own signs. Each additional look is $75, so you can plan your session around the images you need.
What should I wear for branding photos?
Wear something that fits you well and represents your brand. For most professional images, I recommend plain muted colors without bright shades or patterns, so people notice your eyes first. If color is part of your brand, like a performer’s costume, bring it, and we’ll plan the shots around it. Also, anything that portrays your profession.
What if I want a look I don’t see in your samples?
Call me. I can create it with my skills as an experienced Certified Professional Photographer. Tell me the look you have in mind, where you’d like to shoot, and how you plan to use the images.
How will I get my photos, and where can I use them?
Your photos arrive in an online gallery, typically within 48 hours, and sometimes within 24 if my schedule allows. Everything I shoot goes in the gallery. Each image you choose includes my retouching, a free black-and-white version, and a license for unlimited use with no time limit, so you can use it on your website, social media, speaker bio, or press kit.
